Molson Coors are appealing their 'revised' proposals to build
replacement sports facilities in Anstey Park. These plans in their
original form were refused in April and the revised plans were similarly
refused in November. This proposed 'football hub' will replace
facilities that will be potentially lost from Molson Coors Anstey Road
sports ground in the event of planning permission being granted for its
development.
This revised application, which is the subject of the appeal to the
Planning Inspectorate, comprises three pitches together with a
clubhouse, floodlighting and the provision of associated parking, access
road across the park and landscaping. It differs from the previous unsuccessful application in a number of minor ways: the orientation of
the clubhouse as well as changes to the method of construction of the
access road and sundry parking.
Alton Town Council recently voted to rescind the previous agreement to
grant licences for Council land to be made available for this scheme on
an area of Anstey Park known as the 'Digger's Elbow'. However, this does
not disqualify Molson Coors from proceeding with the appeal and ARG is
encouraging all those who fought off the last two assaults on the open spaces of Anstey Park to re-engage with the planning process by writing
to the Planning Inspector with their objections. This is a different
type of planning adjudication and it is vitally important that the
Inspector is made aware of the overwhelming public opposition to Molson Coors plans.
